Laguna Sulti’s community leaders and residents held a memorial service last week for Ivo Daniel Martínez Velásquez, 30 days following his tragic death; they invited Mano a Mano personnel to attend. Capitán Martinez had become a welcome, much-loved presence in Laguna Sulti, as he assisted with the design of the new airport and runway under construction by Mano a Mano and ensured that all safety requirements are met.

The service, held on the banks of the Laguna Sulti reservoir, was “very respectful and beautiful.” A permanent display now stands beside the water.

As they mourn the loss of Ivo Daniel, the leaders asked for reassurance that Mano a Mano’s aviation program and the airport project will continue to move forward. Following the service, they spoke about the importance of these programs to the community and to the entire Punata province.
