On the Current Situation in Bolivia

As many of you are no doubt aware, the current situation in Bolivia is very tense as a result of the questionable results from the October 20 presidential election. Hundreds of thousands are demonstrating in the streets of all major cities, including Cochabamba, where Mano a Mano is based. Campesinos who are loyal to the president have been called by his party to march on the cities in support of him. Violence has been relatively minimal, considering the numbers of supporters and opposing protesters who are demonstrating, but that is of course subject to change at any time.

In spite of this situation, Mano a Mano staff members continue to report to work as best they are able. Our projects underway in the rural communities have stayed on track up to this point.

We’ll keep you posted as this situation evolves.
