On February 9th, 2024 Mano a Mano provided a weekend health clinic (jornada) in San Pablo de Moxos, a small community of around 30 people in the department of Beni in the Bolivian Amazon.

Weekend Health Clinic in San Pablo de Moxos – February 9th, 2024
In addition to the flight – turning what would be many, many hours of driving into less than an hour-long flight – volunteers have to make a 45-minute trek by horseback to get to San Pablo de Moxos.

On this jornada, 8 volunteer medical professionals participated: 3 dentists, 3 doctors, and 2 physical therapists. We were able to provide 32 people with dental care, with a total of 72 procedures; 36 people received medical care; and 8 people received physical therapy. With each visit, we also transport much-needed supplies, including medical supplies, mobility equipment, and general provisions that can be very difficult to acquire in isolated rural communities.

Mano a Mano Weekend Health Clinics

Mano a Mano’s aviation program has 3 primary programs working with Bolivian communities that have minimal access to health care and basic services:

  1. emergency rescue of ill and injured individuals, transporting them to urban hospitals for life-saving treatment;
  2. weekend clinics for which we transport volunteer health care professionals into remote areas to provide primary medical & dental care; and
  3. transporting medical supplies, mobility equipment, food, supplies, and other needed items to/from isolated communities.
