Last week, our counterpart organization Mano a Mano Bolivia dedicated a new health clinic and a new school in Bolivia!
Dedicating a New Health Clinic in El Carmen, Bolivia – September 26th, 2024
This new clinic in El Carmen is Mano a Mano’s 187th clinic project in Bolivia. Every Mano a Mano project is a partnership: thank you to our counterpart organization Mano a Mano Bolivia, who oversees the process of building clinics from start to finish; the local community of El Carmen and municipal government of Tarabuco that are involved throughout the process; and US funders that are providing the seed money that made this project possible!
When Mano a Mano dedicates a clinic or school project, it is always fully furnished and equipped. Many of the furnishings are constructed by Mano a Mano Bolivia in their workshop in Cochabamba.
With Mano a Mano clinics, they become part of the Bolivian healthcare system and are the official provider for their catchment area, making them eligible for services and reimbursement through Health Ministry-funded programs. All staff salaries in Mano a Mano’s clinics are paid for by sources within Bolivia (we currently have 546 medical professionals – 200 doctors, 266 nurses, and 80 dentists – working in Mano a Mano clinics). Our clinic program’s approach is that health outcomes can be dramatically improved with simple yet effective interventions, beginning with the basic ability to consistently access quality services in their own communities. Every project is a partnership; our counterpart organization Mano a Mano Bolivia oversees the process of building clinics from start to finish; the local community and municipal government are involved throughout the process and take over management of each project once they are complete; and US funders provide the seed money that make each project possible. We have completed 187 clinics to date (2 new clinics finished in April, and El Carmen completed this month), 3 communities with signed agreements for a clinic, and 43 communities on our clinic project waiting list actively seeking to partner with Mano a Mano.
Through the first half of 2024, Mano a Mano’s network of health clinics throughout rural Bolivia had 678,916 patient visits. With a focus on primary health, most of these visits are related to vaccinations, births, nutritional supplementation, basic lab work, dental care, and general medical attention.
Dedicating a New School in Chaqui Mayu, Bolivia – September 25th, 2024
This new school in Chaqui Mayu, in the municipality of Aiquile, is Mano a Mano’s 69th school project in Bolivia.
Every Mano a Mano project is a partnership; thank you to the Municipal Government of Aiquile, MELA (Medical Educators for Latin America) and friends from Idaho, our counterpart organization Mano a Mano Bolivia, and the community of Chaqui Mayu for making this project possible!
