Wirkini Water Reservoir Dedicated Yesterday (Oct. 18, 2016)
Mano a Mano’s newest reservoir in Wirkini, Bolivia was inaugurated yesterday! The project provides year-round access to water for more than 2,000 people in 5 surrounding communities.
Note From Mano a Mano Co-Founder Segundo Velasquez in Attendance for the Dedication Yesterday
Mano a Mano co-founder Segundo Velasquez was present for the Wirkini water reservoir dedication event yesterday, and sent the following note:
After three years of work, Mano a Mano workers, the community, and everybody was excited and happy that this project – that had brought so many challenges – is finally finished. As water rushed out of the piping, residents looked in awe at the amount and speed of water that came out of the reservoir.
The Wirkini water reservoir structure is quite impressive. Standing 59 feet above ground at 14,000 feet above sea level is quite impressive. Over 23 feet of water has already collected in the reservoir….but that is minimal compared to the amount of water that will ultimately store in this newly completed reservoir.
This reservoir will be the inheritance that residents will leave to their children.
I think all I can say is that the people were grateful for this project. Now, they said, they will better provide for their children. Actually, they said that this reservoir will be the inheritance that residents will leave to their children.

Mano a Mano volunteer Sam Klein recently wrote in more detail about the impact the Wirkini reservoir will have for the five communities in the area – read his post here.
