This summer Mano a Mano has dedicated two new large clinic projects in Pocona and Zona Sud, Bolivia.
Zona Sud
On July 13 Mano a Mano Bolivia staff traveled 12 hours from our Cochabamba office to Zona Sud, on the outskirts of Uyuni, to dedicate our 130th health clinic. This clinic is larger than our typical project; there are 2 doctors, 3 nurses, and 1 dentist on staff to provide healthcare to a population of 3,900 residents. All staff salaries are being paid for by the Bolivian Health Ministry. As part of our model, staff salaries are agreed to be provided by sources within Bolivia. We now have 438 doctors, nurses, and dentists working in our network of 131 clinics, and every single staff salary is paid for by a source within Bolivia (typically the Health Ministry, who pays for 82% of staff salaries, or the local municipality).
Pocona
Our most recent clinic was dedicated on August 22 in the community of Pocona. This clinic is also much larger than a typical project due to a large population – 13,000 people will have access to healthcare. This is our 131st clinic in Bolivia!
It is equipped with the following:
- Operating room
- Birthing room
- 4 doctor’s offices
- 4 inpatient rooms
- Dental room
- Lab
- Pharmacy
- Nurses’ office
